OVERCOME evil WITH GOOD Presented by Steven Schiller

INTRO:

We start this morning with this statement from Jesus.Joh 16:33  These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

As a christian you don`t have to travel very far in your christian life to find evil or descern evil, and good. The world is evil. When we think of Gal 1:4  Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:

Of course Jesus gave himself, and sacrificed himself for us Hebrews 9:26

GOD IS LOVE

Romans Rom 12:9  Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.

You could say for dissimulation pretend or insincere love, fake love. Hate, or detest that which is evil.

Rom 12:21  Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

The word overcome in the greek is G3528

νικάω

nikaō

nik-ah'-o

From G3529; to subdue (literally or figuratively): - conquer, overcome, prevail, get the victory.

Total KJV occurrences: 28

You may remember the rich young ruler who called Jesus good, Jesus responded with why call me good.

Luk 18:18  And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

Luk 18:19  And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.

We must consider the first chapter of Genesis and the days of creation to couple God to good. God saw

all that he made and it was good.Gen 1:31  And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

We can know that God is good, because everything God made was good, and everything he does is in truth.

Psa 33:4  For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.

Psa 86:15  But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.

That is not true of man, but what is true of man is God sees him without his son Jesus Christ as described in Genesis.

Gen 6:5  And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

We have to see that God is only good, for man to be viewed by God as good, what does he have to do. He has to overcome evil.

There is no question about that. The problem is sin which is all unrighteous 1Jn5:17  All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.

Rom 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

So all have sinned, then who can judge with righteous judgement.

You may be surprized to know that no man was able to open then book, but only the lamb of God is worthy.

Rev 5:2  And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?

Rev 5:3  And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.

Rev 5:4  And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.

Rev 5:5  And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

Man has to obey the the gospel of Christ, and be washed in the blood of Jesus Christ to be cleansed, and forgiven of sin.

Man cannot save himself from unrighteousness, only God saves.

So a condition for man is to come to himself, and realize that there is no salvation for him without Jesus Christ the

saviour. Salvation came by Jesus Christ.

IN SUMMARY:

To overcome evil man must be in Christ, and Christ in him. He must do the will of God. He must live a faithful life,

be a living sacrifice unto death.

Rom 12:1  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Rev 2:10  Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

You must be born of water, and the spirit.

Joh 3:5  Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Joh 3:6  That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

1Jn 5:4  For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

1Jn 5:5  Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

Are you listening?

Rev 2:7  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

Rev 2:11  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

Rev 2:17  He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

Are you doing the will of God in obedience?

Rev 2:26  And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:

Rev 3:5  He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

Rev 3:12  Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

Rev 3:21  To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

Rev 21:7  He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

Conclusion:

We must as God`s purchased possession worship God in spirit and truth, we must study, and meditate on his word, we must

proclaim the gospel to every creature. We must follow Jesus to the end. We must be a doer of his word, this is he will for

us.

We must not the evil one derail our straight and narrow way.Remember our adversary is evil, wicked, insidious. A hater of

God, and his people.
